Compression Options

Hey Road Warriors:

Running and Walking is all about being able to recover and stay healthy. The only way for muscles to do that is by the transfer of energy, through proper oxygen flow. Compression socks and sleeves are a proven method to improve oxygen and blood flow to your lower legs.

Tight compression from the knee down is key to increasing blood circulation in the arteries. This means that your legs get a larger supply of oxygen and energy, helping you to recover faster and easier. Compression also helps lend support to the muscle groups of the legs and feet. Because of this it can help relieve pain from injuries, or prevent injuries all together. Common ailments of the lower legs that compression helps prevent are: Shin splints, calf cramping, Achilles issues, and pulled muscles.

Compression is most commonly used during physical activity to add support to muscles and joints and to promote better blood flow that can directly affect your performance. But it can also be used around the house or when you are sleeping to help promote faster recovery to get you ready for the next workout as quickly as possible.

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, October, Moving Comfort's "Support Your Girls" campaign will donate $1 from every sports bra sale to Feel Your Boobies.

The mission of the Feel Your Boobies Foundation is to use unconventional and unexpected methods to remind young women to "feel their boobies", and give them simple ways to remind their friends to do the same. This message falls in line with Moving Comfort's efforts to empower young women to be proactive about their health, and Moving Comfort is proud to partner with them.

This is the third consecutive year for Moving Comfort's Support Your Girls Campaign and to date, they have donated $20,000 for breast health awareness.

Fleet Feet Sports is proud to have a wide selection of Moving Comfort sports bras. We invite you to stop in and get a personal FIT, and help us raise funds for the Feel Your Boobies Foundation.

Step into Minimalism with Saucony

Going barefoot is the newest running/walking fad out there. But a lot of us don’t know much about it or why we should try it. It’s not for everyone and not everyone has an interest in trying it. But for those that do, shoe companies are making shoes for you. Saucony, being one of those companies, has some newer shoes out to help introduce your feet to the barefoot experience.

The Mirage – Step 1- A lightweight shoe, with plenty of cushions and just enough support for those runners/walker that need it. It allows your foot to sit flat in the shoe to help promote better form and efficiency.

The Kinvara – Step 2 – An even lighter shoe than the mirage. Still soft and cushioned to protect the foot but a little more flexible to give your foot an even more “natural” experience. A great shoe for racing, workouts, or even just to alternate with the shoe that you already have.

*NEW* The Hattori – Step 3 – The lightest and least supportive shoe of the 3. This shoe was designed to give you a completely barefoot experience. Has just enough to protect you from whatever surfaces your working out on. It is super flexible to allow your foot to perform as it would with nothing on.

With these 3 shoes, Saucony has given us a “minimalistic” option that can suit almost anyone. Going barefoot is a new experience for us all and is a transition for the whole body, especially the feet. Taking these steps towards barefoot is the best way to do it!

Garmin 610 Tech Review

I never thought that the watch I wore could determine how I experienced my run. But the new Garmin 610 did just that as soon as I put it on! With all their watch expertise to build on, Garmin has outdone themselves on this one. Software, hardware, and appearance have all been improved to not only give you, the consumer, a better product but also a heightened running experience.

The minute you step out your door for your first run/walk with the Garmin 610, the improvements are evident. Satellite signal is acquired within seconds; so there is no waiting around on the front porch. Once you’re moving there is a setting for whatever workout you have planned that day. Flip on the virtual training partner setting to keep you honest on a tempo run, or set up interval timing for your run-to-walk ratio. For those of us that struggle with holding a steady pace during a race (myself included) they have a virtual racer setting to get us to a new personal record! Or just use the basic functions on a nice easy recovery day. The Garmin 610 has multiple training screens that are just 1 tap away. If you are the person that loves to have heart rate and calorie data available during your run, you can set that up in a secondary field. With a tap or swipe of the touch screen you can easily advance pages without missing a step of you run.

Outside of the data field there are numerous small features that set this watch above and beyond the competition. The touch screen is pressure sensitive so will not change screen from rain or sweat. Not to mention, you can still change screens with your gloved finger in the cold Winter months. Not only will the watch beep for notifications but you can also turn on the vibrate setting for alerts, distance, or times. And for those who are directionally challenged, finally a watch with a “navigate back to start” feature! This setting will guide you back to that start of you run. This allows you to explore new routes and always be able to find you way home!

What Garmin has always done so well, they have done even better with the NEW Garmin 610. With a price that has not fluctuated much from older models it makes it easy to upgrade today. Stop in to Fleet Feet Sports Cincinnati to check one out. Try it on to appreciate its new sleek body design and learn even more about it from any of the staff members! This watch will keep you motivated and enjoying all your running/walking endeavors, and you once you have one, you’ll never leave home without it.

I hope you enjoy your new Garmin 610 as much as I have!
